kv4p a small SRD for your phone
This project is seriously cool! KV4P created a nifty little device using a DRA818V module receiver, all controlled by an ESP32 to interface seamlessly with a phone app via USB.
They even built an awesome site: kv4p.com
But wait, there’s more: they’ve got a supporting phone app 🤩 and an online flasher to make setup a breeze: kv4p.com/quick_start.html
But the software is where the awesomeness and super-duper-easiness kinda hits a wall. Sure, the GitHub repository is packed with goodies, and there’s even a PCBway page to order pre-built and populated PCBs. Sounds awesome, right?
Well… not so fast. PCBway won’t have the components in stock—seriously, what’s the point?—and they’ll randomly pick some version of the board to make. Like, WTF!?
(Just to be clear, this isn’t about the project—it’s about PCBway, and yeah… they really suuuuk.)
After sifting through the Gerber files and ordering twice as many parts as I probably need (it’s an electronics project, so of course, you need spares), and dealing with two sets of PCBs (shoutout to PCBway for sending me the “newest version” 1.5 🙄), I finally sent the Gerbers to JLCPCB to get the actual newest version—1.7b. Now, I think I finally have everything to start assembling this thing.
